In your short bio, you say that you are now a community and set out to spread the word. How does that community function and what is the word you want to spread?
So when we say that we are a community we are acknowledging that there are many moving parts involved in making a band work. From writing a song to performing it on a stage, we consider everyone involved a part of what Okey Dokey really is. It’s a way to say thanks, set the right intentions, and invite new people along for the journey. I guess the word would be HELLO.
What are some things you do together apart from music?
Well, Johny is a garden master, a Local Opener, and has new talents all the time. He knows how to live. Jeremy is a puzzle breaker. If it has a current he can make it do whatever you want. Also loves a good game, or a hike. I am constantly chasing an artistic venture or reading something that will help me connect some dots. We are always on some tangent.
Do you have a group text, or do you see each other very often? When I listen to your music, it feels like you are best buddies sending each other funny memes everyday.
Oh, of course. We’re best friends. Humor is essential.
I know you guys are on other projects, too. What makes Okey Dokey different or special for you?
I see Okey Dokey as this lighthouse that invites friendly collaborators and provides a comfortable space for whomever because why not?
We’ve chosen When They Get Older for our loop-songs series. What is the inspiration behind it and how did it come together?
Rayland Baxter is a close friend of ours and when we got going he really stepped forward as someone who believed in us and wanted to help give us a push. He’s been there for us in a million different ways and I remember the day we started talking about recording together. We came up with a few songs pretty fast and this one stuck out. This song is about vagabonds, goobers, ding-dongs, and all manner of wackadoodles. I’m one. I laugh at everything and I think we all look for places to feel warm. It was a great time. He’s a great dude.

Aaron on When They Get Older
Love listening to a bittersweet song with a smile on the face. What would you say about When They Get Older (and your music in general) in this context?
This song isn’t very muddy when it comes to subject matter. I love writing five things at once. I think it creates a lane for people to focus if they wish. Enjoy the song as the vibe it is if you wish, and please take some time to figure out what we are really talking about, yes. This is not one of those songs though. Have a good time with it!
Okey Dokey must be one of the most underrated low-key bands. Where do you want to see your band in the future?
I appreciate the kind words! Lemme see. I have a very open relationship with the prospects of this band. We are here for anything really, and I think the point is actually to help others out. So, I assume we’ll be here for a long time to come. We have just released an EP called, Leaky Sealing. I am excited for you to listen to it. We will be following this up with something we have been covering up for a little while.
What are some go-to songs you listen to while you are drawing?
It is usually audiobooks or podcasts for me. I love the DTFH. I have also been listening to all of the Graham Hancock material lately. As far as music goes, I really enjoy looking for things to share with others. I have a few playlists on Apple Music that I like to fill up with new finds. The band I gravitate towards the most lately is Sirens of Lesbos.
