Lyrics: L'appartement
Un rideau fleuri cache la pluie
Le vent
C’est notre après-midi
Tous les deux dans l’appartement
On n’ira pas dehors
Et puis on ne fait rien
Qu’irait-on faire dehors
Lorsque dedans, tout va si bien ?
[Refrain]
Ils s’aiment
Des livres et des couleurs
Homère, une guitare et des fleurs
Bien sûr, la fenêtre ouverte
Laisse passer, laisse passer
Un parfum peut-être
C’est la pluie d’été
[Refrain]
Comme dans ce tableau, tu sais
Comme dans ce poème où il pleut et ils s’aiment
Comme dans ce tableau, tu sais
Comme dans ce poème où il pleut et
Ils s’aiment
Tu dis qu’il pleut toujours
Toi tu n’réponds rien
Qu’il pleuve, mon amour
Qu’il pleuve, mon amour

I sometimes send gifs to my friends but not very often, I cut my hair myself, I learned to ride a bike with my mum and dad on a path in Switzerland, I get angry when I can no longer find my cigarettes, my first bike was a very beautiful red Peugeot.
Clio patiently answering every single question of ours.
In your previous record, Déjà Venise, we witnessed the stories of your distant or disconnected couples and your perspective of how ‘love’ was experienced. This time you put that ‘love’ word into the title of your new release.
My album is called “L’amour Hélas/Alas Love” because, once again, I talk a lot about love. In the song called “L’amour Hélas”, I say, “Alas love never tires me”. Even though sometimes I would like to talk about something else, I always end up talking about love or feelings. That’s what interests me and that I explore in almost all of my songs.
Our loop choice from your beautiful new album is L’appartement this time. What is the song about, and how did the long quarantine affect both this song in particular and also L’amour Hélas in general?
As for the song L’appartement, it is about a couple in a simple and happy moment. It’s raining outside but nothing can darken their moment.
I would have dreamed of being able to meet Iggy Pop and actually sing with him in the studio, but that was not possible due to the health crisis. I hope we can actually sing together as soon as possible. This crisis prevented this meeting but did not hamper my work around this record. On the contrary, being a little cut off from the world has given me the opportunity to write a lot.
That is one of the most unexpected duos ever, to be honest. How did you convince Iggy for this, or maybe I should say how did he convince you?
Haha! When I was writing this duet, I dreamed of a very deep voice with an accent, ideally American. It was while listening to Iggy Pop’s album “Après” where he sings very famous French songs in French that I told myself that his voice was exactly the voice of my dreams for my song.
Obviously, I never imagined for a moment that this could be possible but my manager, who had no doubts, decided to send him the song through his agent. Then it went really fast: He replied that he liked the song and that he was okay with it. He recorded it a few weeks later.
We’ve mostly seen you ride a bike or wander about in Théo Leroyer videos. For your new album, you have been working with Isabelle Maurel instead. Considering your timeless and cinematic sound and all those New Wave influences sprinkled into your music, will you ever take place in a cinema project along with these talented artists?
Isabelle Maurel is just finishing writing a feature film for which she wants me to write songs. This is my job for the months to come!
When are you going to start acting like a superstar? Please tell us a bit about your personality. Do you still use notebooks? Do you do your dishes, or use a washer? Do you like summers, or winters? What is your favorite movie scene? Do you sleep with music or light on? Do you often get headaches? Where do you get your socks from? Do you send memes to your friends? Do you cut your own hair? Who taught you how to ride a bike? What makes you angry? Do you feel homesick for a place you’ve never been before? What color was your first bike?……. I can go on. Please tell us a bit about yourself……
I use black Moleskine notebooks with white pages, I write with Pigma Micron very fine point .005 pens, I have had a dishwasher for some time and I welcome it daily, I love summer but I still prefer spring when it is beautiful, I have a lot of favorite movie scenes, I rather sleep in the dark and without music but I am not very demanding in that regard, I do not have much problems except for a very big dust mite allergy, I buy my socks at Monoprix, I sometimes send gifs to my friends but not very often, I cut my hair myself, I learned to ride a bike with my mum and dad on a path in Switzerland, I get angry when I can no longer find my cigarettes, my first bike was a very beautiful red Peugeot, my favorite chocolate is 90% Lindt, I don’t know how to juggle, I use a lot of painter’s tape for a lot of different things, I can whistle between my teeth, I don’t like coriander, my cup-and-ball record is 46 in a row but that was a long time ago, I would like to live in Italy or Greece for a year or two.
And what is one song you play in loop mode all the time?
La Ballade de Jim (Alain Souchon)
We love the L’amour Hélas live session you made for Raje in your kitchen. What is your favorite item on your fridge?
It’s hard to choose but I really have sympathy for this little fish:
