Perhaps one can say that freethinker of the disco throw melancholic slogans on the dance floor. Or a synthesizer organ, drums and a bass try to say what many don’t understand. Or poetry before prose. Or dance before music. Or the things of yesterday in the spirit of tomorrow. Or everything’s contrary. Everything is Klaus Johann Grobe. Everything is duo. Everything is modern. And everything is now. [Bandcamp]

What is the song actually about?

It’s about half-heartedly going out for clubbing but instead of enjoying the crowd dancing the night away you find yourself isolated on the dancefloor thinking about the madness of today’s world.

Will you tell us how the song came together?

We just decided to do another record and didn’t really know what direction we wanted to go. We just came back from a year-long break and in order to get things going we basically just booked the studio without any material in our head. Sometimes we need a little pressure. So we were doing this and that and nothing felt quite right. One day Dani sent me a demo with that arpeggio synth in it. That’s when it started. The arpeggio synth stayed and the rest was added to it within a day. The whole timing and progression thing just felt natural. It was also the first track where a guitar was needed, something we wanted to try for a while. So yeah, I sent it back to Dani and we both felt «this is it» now we can start working on the record.

What were your influences?

There are always so many different things that inspire a song. I really can’t tell on this one. We both listen to so much stuff so there’s probably little things of everything in there. The whole record though was strongly influenced by the whole french house stuff that came out in the late 90s and RnB. I know, it’s not house and it’s not RnB but it certainly is somehow very clubby.

What is the significance of Discogedanken for you?

As mentioned before «Discogedanken» was the cornerstone for «Du bist so symmetrisch» and definitely a big favorite to play live. It also helped us to reach new people that never heard of us. Somehow people seemed to really connect with it and it definitely showed us going properly further from «Spagat der Liebe».

How happy were you with the feedback (It’s almost got a million hits on Spotify)?

Haha, I don’t really remember. I think the feedback was very strong and folks were surprised about the actual modernish yet warm sound. So all good. We still love the track and that’s all that matters really. We never expect much when we do stuff. I guess that’s a major part of still being able to enjoy what you do. Oh, and it keeps you young too.

Lyrics: Discogedanken

[Strophe 1]
Wir dachten, alles wär’, so wie
Die ganzen Zeiten, noch nicht ausgezählt
Alles vergessen, was man einmal schon gedacht hat
