Nacho Rodriguez talks about Mambeado

Mambeado came to my life in a very mystic way, like a gift, a miracle.

First the chorus of the song appeared one night when I was with a group of friends spending a weekend in the country, a few hours from our city. It was full moon and we were outside playing songs and having fun. Suddenly I started to sing the chorus that came to my mind and in a minute we were all together singing as one voice. That was around June I think, but the song would have to wait till the next February to be completed. That year was a huge crisis for me, on very different levels. In the musical scenario I was leaving a band that I had been working for many years, “Doris”, and it was hard for me because I didn’t know what to do, that band had been my life and my project but I wanted to leave… the relationships inside the band were not good, also we were feeling exhausted about putting so much energy in a project that we couldn’t make it a living.

I also had a huge dream about living from my music, and it felt very far away. Till Mambeado came. That summer I went to Cabo Polonio in Uruguay to spend some quiet days and rest my head of that heavy year. After a week, my friends decided to return to Buenos Aires, and I decided to stay alone, sleeping occasionally at people’s places who offered me a bed for a night or two. I stayed like one more month there, in that beautiful and powerful place with no cars, and no electricity, but a huge sky and a beautiful sea. I was making peace with life after a year of insomnia and struggle. I spent most of my days walking along the beach with my guitar, and day after day the song started to appear in my head. After a few days, I had all the lyrics in my head, and I started to feel a voice in my mind saying, “Sit down and write the song”, and in a way I felt bored doing that, I was judging the song as corny or so, I didn’t want to write it down, the voice in my head kept saying “sit down and finish the song”. So did I, feeling a little pushed, but it was really easy after I started to write. Five minutes and the song was completed. That’s why I felt that I didn’t compose the song, because if it was for me and my judgements I would have never done it, but there was this voice inside “sit down and write the song”.

I see this song as a gift from the universe. After a couple of months, I was making my living through my music, and traveling all around the world, living my dream.

On Mambeado

I see this song as a gift from the universe. It helped spread Onda Vaga a lot. After a couple of months, I was making my living through my music, and traveling all around the world, living my dream. Mambeado didn’t only help me, it also touched the hearts of so many people, we received a lot of messages from different people telling us how that song helped them in a tough time of their lives. It has got its own life and it feels nice being a bridge to the birth of it. Today the song is still alive, we keep receiving messages from time to time about it, and when you ask me to write about it I felt grateful to you, because when I realized all this history I can feel the interconnectedness between all, and the magic of this universe. I’m very grateful with life and every person that helps me to remember this truth.

Lyrics: Mambeado

Y me encierro otra vez y no puedo salir
